Another beautiful day
for a plate shoot. Not too hot, with a bit of a breeze to keep everybody
from sweating too much. We had a really good turnout with twenty
shooters showing up try their hand at our course. The main event,
apparently, was still pretty easy for everybody since there were very
few hostage hits. I guess I’m going to have to be quite nasty with the
hostage placement at the September match.
Dan Shultz came out on
top this time with a score of 96.92. Second place came in almost four
and a half seconds behind him, so it was a pretty close race. Good
shooting Dan.
Yours truly came in
first at the El Presidente with a score of 32.65. Other people were
faster than I was, but they had more misses than I did. With a ten
second penalty for every miss, it doesn’t take many of them to put you
out of the running. I keep telling everybody to slow down a little and
concentrate on your sights and you will get a good score, but apparently
not too many people believe me. That’s okay, I’ll be more than happy
to come in first again.
We had a few people fail
to finish due to gun malfunctions. It’s too bad that had to happen,
but if it does happen, it’s a good thing it happened here, and not in
a serious situation. The worst that can happen here is that you get a
Did Not Finish. You can take the gun home and get it repaired so that it
will be ready for the next time you use it. For those who have a carry
permit you need to have complete confidence that your firearm will work
100% of the time. If you use your carry gun in this match and find that
you have any malfunctions whatsoever, don’t think that it was a fluke
and that it won’t happen again. Retire it until you can take it to a
gunsmith to find out why it did what it did, and fix it so it doesn’t
do it again. Your life and the life of your love ones demand it. Sorry
if I sound a little preachy, but I take this aspect of the game very
seriously. This is really good practice to find out where your gun
shoots when your in a hurry, as compared to taking your time resting on
sandbags. There is a difference, and more than one person found this out
shooting our course.
I want to thank Rick
Heyt, Denny Nelson, & Kurt Hopkins for helping out this day. I also
want to thank those shooters who helped us set up and tear down. They
made the day go much smoother and easier.
Our next match will be
Saturday, September 13. Sign up will be at 10:00 AM. Weather permitting,
of course. If you have any questions or comments, you can contact me at pl8shootr@sbcglobal.net.
Hope to see you then. Until then, focus on that front sight, and keep
your finger out of the trigger guard until your sights are on the
target.
