We had a beautiful day for our first plate shoot
of the year. We had 15 entries. A little less than normal, but a fun
time was had by all. We didn’t have a lot of low scores this time,
mainly due to the bowling pins not being knocked over easily. It looked
like the reason for that was that the holes we cut into the board for
them to sit into was a little too large and they were sitting a little
too deep. It took a solid hit for them to fall over. It didn’t matter
what caliber you used, if you didn’t hit center, all they did was move
but not go over. We plan on cutting smaller holes for the next shoot, so
hopefully they will go over easier next time. If not, then smaller holes
until we get it right. Please bear with us.
In spite of all the difficulties we
encountered, Dan Barricklow came out on top with the winning time of
79.44. Great shooting Dan. Very few people hit the hostages we had put
out there, which either means we had a lot of very accurate shooters, or
we didn’t put them close enough to the bad guys. We shall see next
month.
In the El Presidente, Dan Barricklow came out
on top again. Not only were his scores very good, he didn’t miss a
single target. A lot of people had great runs, but messed them up by
missing some targets, and getting penalty points added on. As I keep
saying, speed without accuracy will not bring in a winning time. Slow
down just a fraction and make all your hits count and you’ll be amazed
at what a good time you will turn in.
This year on the results section you will see a
new column added. We now put in the caliber that you shoot. I thought
that this would be interesting to see what people are using. At this
match no certain caliber was dominant. Each of the big three was pretty
well represented. It will be interesting to see if this stays the same
all year or if one will be used more often than the others.
We had a few people use the .22 drag race
targets today, but not very many. We plan on setting these targets up
all summer, so feel free to sign up to shoot them. In these tight
economic times, it might be tough to come up with enough money to shoot
the center fire events, but the odds are you can afford a brick of .22
ammo. It’s a lot of fun to shoot these, even if you are by yourself.
It should even help you be a better shooter when you go to shoot the big
bore events. So if nothing else, come on out and give these a try.
Our next match will be on June 14, so mark your
calendars and plan on having a fun time at the range. If you have any
questions, please feel free to contact me at pl8shootr@sbcglobal.net.
I will try and answer your questions to your complete satisfaction. See
you on the 14th at 10:00.
